Dave was in battle mode this morning...strong physically and mentally, and ready for surgery. They ran some final tests this morning and found no signs of mets, so they went forward with full surgery as planned.
Dave went into recovery (post operative ICU) a little after 1pm today. Dr. Lowy said if anything, the tumor looked even better than the imaging suggested! The surgical team used the saphenous vein to establish better blood flow to the common hepatic artery. They needed to remove the left adrenal gland as it was adhered to the mass and spleen. Pathology will take a week or more to get results, but Dr. Lowy was very happy with how the gross surgical margins looked.
Jane just left a message a little after 5pm after visiting Dave in recovery, and she said he looks absolutely amazing! Already smiling, asking others how they're doing, etc. What an amazing guy!
Dr. Lowy was beaming and told them that the surgery could not have gone better! There's a couple things with reconnecting veins, etc. that they'll have to keep an eye on in the coming weeks, but he was thrilled with the result and the ease with how he was able to resect the tumor.
Such incredible news for our beloved Dave!
