Well, we had figured we would hit some setbacks along the hospital course & today was one of those days. Because some of the nerves that supply the gastrointestinal (GI) tract were cut during surgery, David's GI tract is not working so well. So, between the advancement of his diet & the periodic clamping of his stomach tube, his stomach was not at all happy today. Nausea set in shortly after breakfast & escalated to vomiting that has continued through this evening despite no further food intake, stomach tube clamping, or IV medications to alleviate nausea. And, of course, the vomiting has caused an increase in his abdominal pain. Needless to say, today has been a bitch!!
The abdominal drainage tubes were removed today (now that's a barbaric procedure), so when he is feeling better, his mobility will be much freer. His abdominal incision is healing nicely & the incision on his upper thigh where they took a vein graft is looking a little better (it had been looking angry, with a fluid pocket present).
Hopefully tomorrow will be a much better day & we can feel like we're making progress again. No one said this fight was going to be easy & he is one strong character with a spirit that is hard to break. So, we'll be here continuing to battle with your support, prayers, & positive energy!
